Laboratory of Metrology and Quality
Basic research activities in the Laboratory of Metrology and Quality, LMK, and Laboratory of Electrical Measurements, LELM, are primarily related to the development of new measurement and testing, M&T, methods in the area of thermal and electrical measurements, electric safety and measurement uncertainty analyses. All the activities are part of joint projects with recognised national measurement institutes, such as, The Netherlands Measurement Institute, NMi, Delft, NL, Physicalisch Technische Bundesanstalt,PTB, Berlin, Germany, National Institute of Standards and Metrology, NIST, Gaithersburg, USA, and many others.
Development in the M&T area and industrial research is focused to the development of new M&T procedures, instruments and equipment. An important part of these activities are evaluations and calibrations in the field of thermometry, including contact and non-contact temperature measurements as well as humidity measurements. All the above mentioned activities are covered by the internationally recognized accreditation service(the Dutch accreditation service, RVA), that also enables the Laboratory of Metrology and Quality to act as a holder of Slovenian national measurement standard in the area of thermometry.
In the area of electrical measurements, new methods for analog to digital conversion and new methods for electric safety testing were developed. Closely related to electric safety testing is conformity assessment according to European Low Voltage Directive.
In all areas of basic and applied research, close cooperation with industry, is established in terms of joint research projects, direct involvement in industrial engineering projects and cooperation in the international projects such as 5th framework programs and EUROMET intercomparisons. Besides industrial cooperation, an important partner are several governmental institutions such as Market surveillance, Slovenian National Metrology institute, and others.
