Subject description

Prerequisits:

  • Enrollment in the study year.

Content (Syllabus outline):

  • Building blocks of audio systems
  • Building blocks of video systems
  • Acoustics (definition, basic physics, room acoustics, examples of practical solutions)
  • Audio signals and microphones (physical basics of dynamic and condenser microphones, PPM/VU metering, symmetrical audio signals, directional/frequency response characteristics, X/Y and M-S stereo wiring.
  • Sound mixing consoles and sound recorders (input/output modules, characteristics of equalizers)
  • Recording on Ferro-magnetic tape (rotating head systems, digital audio recorders)
  • Cameras (basics, light sensors (CCD/3CCD)
  • TV monitors (video adapters, computer screens/video monitors, Plasma, LCD, LED, OLED)
  • Video mixing consoles
  • Magneto scopes
  • Digital video recording (digital Beta, DV in MiniDV, DVCPRO, DVCAM, Betacam SX, Digital S, HDCAM, DVCPRO 50, IMX 2000)
  • Video editing (linear editing, time code (LTC, VTC), non-linear editing, character generator, video graphics, computer video processing)
  • TV light (light sources, types of light, angle, the function of the light source, light keys)
  • Virtual studio (definition, how is it work, examples of virtual scenes)

Objectives and competences:

Overview and learning the basic knowledge and expertise in the field of audio visual production. Basic knowledge of existing and new media, knowledge of the basic principles of design and creation of multimedia content, knowledge of multimedia devices.

Intended learning outcomes:

Understanding of studio equipment and recording techniques in the viewpoint of capturing audio and video, connectivity with other devices and systems. Mixing signals and knowledge of different formats. Methods of storing content and broadcasting on the air on different transmission links.

Learning and teaching methods:

  • Lectures, demonstrations, practical studio work. In studio audiovisual equipment is used, and on order to successfully finish the course, students have to produce their own video program.
