Content (Syllabus outline):
- History and development of design: an overview of styles and genres
- Basic art elements, color theory, composition - tutorial: visual studies, color stUdies
- Fundamentals of typography and the laws of the use of typefaces and families
- Format break and structuring with artistic and typographic elements
- Visual Communication Design - 1 structuring of messages in accordance with the laws of the communication code, and depending on the target communication group
- Visual Communication Design - 2 designing and structuring messages through the artistic elements and assemblies
- Using programs from the Adobe graphics package
- Principals of screenshots: resolution and flexibility of design solutions to different screen resolutions, color values, contours and anti-aliasing
- The concept of interactivity in new media
- Analysis of examples of websites
- Site Design: logical link structure
- Site Design: website design based on the laws of display image and visual communication
- The creation of electronic documents
- Analysis of examples of user interfaces
- Designing the User Interface
- emphasis on the innovation of the communication between users and computers
- emphasis on properly structured visual communication between the elements of the user interface, that provides information on the interaction with the interface
- The laws of moving images:
- Editing of images and plans,
- Video editing of the “image in an image”
- Planning a short video or television title sequence
Objectives and competences:
The aim of the course is to introduce the basics of visual expressing and the planning of a structured visual communication. The students will use the design methods in the design of new media interfaces, electronic documents and web pages, since the design of visual communication is one of the aspects that facilitate and moderate the communication between user and computer interface. Based on the qualitative evaluation of examples of design solutions, students will learn about ways of creating visual communications with respect to the specifics of the media through which the message is forwarded.
Intended learning outcomes:
Knowledge of the laws of artistic expression, from the artistic elements to the basic principles of construction of the form (Gestalt). Knowledge of the use of typefaces. Knowledge of media laws of screenshots. Understanding the structured communication in relation to the communication code and the target communication group. Understanding visual communication design. Understanding the importance and use of design methods in the design of computer interfaces.
Learning and teaching methods:
- Lectures, tutorials; seminars cover domestic work.
- Particular emphasis is on an ongoing study.
- A special aspect is the introduction of group work on a complex design project.
