Subject description

Prerequisits:

  • Acquaintance with content of following courses: Communication systems, Telecommunication networks, Telecommunication protocols.

Content (Syllabus outline):

Protocols and service architectures for convergent services.Signaling: voice telephony, next-generation networks, and smart energy-grids.Elements of convergent networks: control, applications and gateways.Fixed-mobile convergence FMC, IMS, EPC.Interactive television systems: IPTV, OTT and broadcasting.Open Web interfaces for cloud and Web2.0 services.Development of SIP, IMS and FMC services.Development of mobile services.Internet of Things.User interfaces and user experience.

Objectives and competences:

  • To provide an overview of the evolution of traditional communication networks toward convergent, interactive, multimedia packet networks.
  • To deliver the means to introduce intelligence in network solutions and multimedia principles of next-generation services. Overview of FMC, IMS, EPC architectures, protocols, and standardization.
  • To get acquainted with specific signaling systems for convergent-services platforms, and fixed-mobile convergence.
  • To provide an overview of examples of convergent services in various application domains.
  • To demonstrate practical approaches for development of mobile, Web and other convergent services.

Intended learning outcomes:

  • Acquaintance with and understanding of convergent architecture concepts, signalling and next-generation service platforms.
  • Understanding of next-generation service and content principles and their implications for telecommunications development trends.
  • Acquaintance with basic procedures in designing and developing of mobile, Web and other convergent services.
