Prerequisits:

  • Enrolment in 3. Year of undergraduate study

Content (Syllabus outline):

  • Role of measurement systems in industrial processes
  • Concept of measurement instrument and system
  • Analysis of time dependence of measurement system
  • Electronic measurements set up for measurement signal adaptation
  • Techniques for decreasing measurement noise, grounding and shielding
  • Communication interfaces for measurement systems
  • Software for measurements in industrial process systems
  • Data acquisition
  • Basic concepts of virtual measurement systems

Objectives and competences:

Linkage between measurement systems and industrial process systems
Time response and modelling of different measurement signals
Understanding procedures to choose adequate measurement instrumentation
Grounding and shielding of electronic measurement systems
Interfacuse bus for cautomating measurement systems
Software requirements (data acquisition, data processing and data presentation)
Virtual measurement systems

Intended learning outcomes:

Understanding of automatic measurement system as part of industrial processes, understanding role of measurement system as part of regulation system, characteristics and properties of communication interfaces
