Content (Syllabus outline):
- Quick review of operation of network layer in IPv4 systems. Transport in Internet systems.
- Packet switch architectures.
- Operation and network services based on Ethernet technologies.
- Network services in IPv4: routing and multicast.
- Fundamentals of IPv6 and IPv6 network services: addressing, routing, mobility.
- Operation and applications of MPLS technology.
- Security devices, mechanisms and services. Virtual private networks and tunneling. End-system and network virtualization.
- Network operator broadband access architectures.
- Introduction to telecommunications engineering: network, traffic, and quality of service planning; measurements.
Objectives and competences:
- This course provides an overview of elements, mechanisms and basic concepts of operation of modern telecommunication network services.
- Acquainting with modern connection principles, network protocols, management mechanisms, security approaches and Internet system services.
Intended learning outcomes:
Knowledge and understanding of elements, mechanisms, security issues and principles of operation of network services.
