Subject description

Prerequisits:

  • Introductory course: "Computer science"
  • A positive lab. course grade is a prerequisite to any type of written examination.

Content (Syllabus outline):

Logic signals and gates with technological designs),Logic functions: (their simplification and realization),Analysis and structures of combinatorial circuits (encoder, decoder, multiplexer, demultiplexer, comparator, adder, arithmetic logic unit, multiplier),Programmable circuits: (elements and realization of logic functions using programmable circuits).Synchronous circuits: (Implementation of latches and flip−flops. Characteristic equations and state transition diagrams.)
Analysis and design of synchronous sequential circuits (counter, register).Finite state machines,
model of synchronous machine (Mealy, Moore).

Objectives and competences:

  • Design of complex digital circuits using advanced design tools.
  • Digital system design using HDL approach.

Intended learning outcomes:

To present theoretical foundations of digital circuits and components used in electronic and computer systems. To acquire development methods and to gain practical skills for designing contemporary digital systems using advanced CAD tools.
