Subject description

Prerequisits:

  • Enrolment in the 1st year of study

Content (Syllabus outline):

  • control systems terminology, control technology instrumentation, control levels,
  • programmable control systems, discrete control using programmable logic controllers,
  • descriptions of control systems and related analysis, mathematical modelling, simulation, properties of dynamic systems, transfer functions and block diagrams, time domain analysis,
  • closed-loop control systems, feedback effects,
  • basic control algorithms (P, PI) and their implementation,
  • illustration with practical examples

Objectives and competences:

The basic objective is to introduce the field of automatic control, basic terms and the idea of systems approach and systems life cycle, and to present basic control principles and related control technology instrumentation, application domains, and Matlab/Simulink technical computing and simulation software.

Intended learning outcomes:

Knowledge of basic control terminology, knowledge of basic control technology instrumentation, understanding of basic systems representations (graphical and mathematical), basic control structures and algorithms, capability of simple programmable control systems implementation, capability of simulation, analysis, and design of simple control systems.

Learning and teaching methods:

  • excursions to industiral and semi-industrial plants.
